Gary
Greeting Earthlings,
I descended from beyond the outer rim of the known worlds in the year of our lord blankety blank blank blank. I resided for a short while in Cheltenham, Glos, before relocating to Swindon, Wiltshire that has been my base of operations ever since, where I spend my days hatching plots for world domination.
By some accident of birth I became a totally un-talented musician who has somehow managed to survive nearly 20 years on the local gig scene, playing in such bands as Flex and the Longman, Wheelz, Muthas Pride, Punishment Due, Watermelon Crawl, the Silverstones, Sad But True, Proudfoot and now Bone Idol. There have been other bands some of which did not gig extensively or maybe get off the ground fully, but as you can see I been busy.
I am currently this band’s lead singer, co-lead guitarist and songwriter, although I have in the past played the harmonica for some of the bands listed above. My musical influences start at Queen and Kiss, go through the whole progressive spectrum, passing by the eighties and nineties to reside in the new millennium with such fave bands as the Wildhearts, Led Zep, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Skindred, Purple, Audioslave, Sabbath, Van Halen ands loads of stuff both new and old that I would need a toilet roll to make the list on.
From a song writing stance I try and write songs that should appeal to both new and old school rockers, mixing rock, punk, funk, metal, reggae and anything else I can throw in. I like to write ‘tongue in cheek’ verses followed by a BIG chorus, and I get the biggest kick performing my own songs along side the classics we play in the band. Most of my songs seem to revolve around people I know, or are exaggerations of situations I’ve been in, or emotions I have been through. Years ago a lot of my lyrics consisted of fantasy, sword & sorcery/sci-fi stories but as the nineties progressed I felt I should adjust my writing in a more ‘down to earth’ approach. I hope you like it.
I usually play a White Gibson Les Paul Studio guitar called Snowy, and a seventies bastardised strat with a black and white ‘Van Halen’ paint job predictably called ‘Eddie’. I use a Zoom Pedal board, Ibanez flanger, Wah-wah, a Marshall JCM 800 amp with a ‘2 by 12’ speaker cab.
Thanks for coming to see the band, visiting the web-site or accosting us in the street, and remember ‘be careful out there’.
